Z - Zappai
A Japanese form, you may see Zappai referred to as "pseudo-haiku," and while it does have the 5/7/5 syllable pattern, a zappai never contains any seasonal or nature references. You could say it's a senryu then, but senryu relate to human nature, in a ironic or humorous way, and a senryu doesn't have the strict adherence to the 5/7/5. Haiku societies are quick to dismiss the zappai as being "doggeral verse" with little literary value.
The Zappai
Some call it pseudo-
Haiku, although it has no
Seasonal reference.

LOL :D It's strange to define a poetic form by something it does *not* contain. Fun!
ReplyDeleteThis was a fascinating theme, thank you!
The Multicolored Diary
It does seem a backwards way of doing it. Thank you for your visits and comments.

Thank you, and thank you for your continued visits. I will admit, I could have picked a simpler theme, but I did start writing the poems months ago!
DeleteCongratulations on completing the challenge. I enjoyed reading how you tackled all those forms.

DeleteHi Lisa - I really enjoyed your poetry forms posts and have just shared it with my budding poet grandson. Just a request or suggestion, could you please put a list of links to all 26 posts in your Reflections post, its quite difficult to navigate to them...
