The Cat's Business

Image
Simply 6 Minutes photo prompt: photo credit 85 unedited words Never ask a cat where he’s going. He won’t ever tell.   Never ask a cat if it knows where he’s going. A cat always knows, very well.    A cat on a mission holds tail up high.   A prance in his step as he trots his way by.   Not looking to left, nor looking to right. His goal is a secret One he holds tight.   Up stairs and down stairs throughout dark of night.   A cat knows just what he’s doing, keeping you awake until light! ©2023 Lisa Smith Nelson. Poets and Storytellers United Friday Writings prompt:  "...write poetry or prose inspired by the title of the first book we read, are reading, or will read in 2023."   The Sunday Muse #243 Photo prompt of a burning house.  I'd written my response to the Friday Writings prompt, then saw this photo prompt for The Sunday Muse.  How could I not use it for a poem inspired by Light in August?  So, I did, and wrote an accompanying haiku. the burning farm house  shines brighter even than  the light in august ©Jocelin Carmes This August sun scorches, baking the rutted track beneath my bare feet. Each dusty step a blistering reminder of how far I’ve come, of how far I’ve yet to go. Only once in a while do I step into the scarce shade the droughtdry buckeye offer on the verge. Not often, for I have miles to go before fulldarkness, and my burden grows heavy under this August sun. ©2023 Lisa Smith Nelson. All Rights Reserved #inspiredbyfalkner #poetsandstoryte

Who Says Crime Doesn't Pay?

Mindlovemiseries Menagerie  Wordle #306 Prompt words in red. photo source       Circumstances  can change faster than the weather. The two  women  were  lucky  that day.  Things were falling into place at long last.       They strolled,  aimless  strolling to the eyes of fellow pedestrians, down the busy city  block , pausing now and again to peer in shop windows. In reality, they were far from  aimless .  They spoke in hushed tones of  tomorrow ’s  challenge .       Any  sticky details  had to be cleaned up, edges honed as sharp as the barber’s  scissors  one secreted in her handbag. The  hourglass  was running down.       Tonight was the night.      By morning, one would be gone, moved out overnight, leaving no forwarding address.  The other?  A rich widow, although… a bit  less  rich due to payment for services rendered.   That trifling shortage would be more than remedied  once  the insurance paid out.           ©2023 Lisa Smith Nelson. Untitled Blackout Poem - from Wordsworth

Poets and Storytellers United  Friday Writings Prompt: " ...create poetry or prose inspired by the words Reclaim, Rekindle, Rebirth ."  I thought I'd use one of my favorite "fun" forms, blackout poetry for this prompt.  I used William Wordsworth's Lines Composed a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey, On Revisiting the Banks of the Wye during a Tour.  July 13, 1798 (usually abbreviated to Tintern Abbey ).  Many of us today can relate to Wordsworth's speaker, as he reclaims former places, rekindles his love of, and experiences a rebirth in, the mountains visited years previously..  The blackout follows.  ©Lisa Smith Nelson   I hear the quiet of the copses, the hedge-rows, the woods. Beauteous. Tranquil.   I trust the mystery of the hills, the mountains, the deep rivers. Lonely. Loved.   I feel the nature of the light, the sky, the fair moon. Wild. Sweet. I remember the voice of the stream, the wandering,
