Taradiddle

Image
Mindlovemisery's Menagerie Wordle #321 Prompt words in red.  My donkey?  You ask why she’s named Taradiddle .   Well, that’s a story for ya!   First, a donkey should be capable and strong, providing significant help on the farm.   Be an impactful animal, if you want to put it that way. Be useful.   Earn its keep, if you will.     As you know, I’ve always kept donkeys, and their dedication to the task at hand was nothing to sneeze at!   It was a slam-dunk with those fellas.   And gals.   I always kept a combination of the two, Jacks and Jennies.   At current , I’ve just Taradiddle . Now, Tara, which is what I call her for short, is different.   I’m flummox ed by her.   She’s not one of my own, born and bred on the farm.   No, I ordered her special like, on account of her being an ancestor of Balaam’s talking donkey.   Now, that might have been centuries ago, longer maybe, I’m not so good at...

Who Says Crime Doesn't Pay?

Mindlovemiseries Menagerie  Wordle #306 Prompt words in red. photo source       Circumstances  can change faster than the weather. The two  women  were  lucky  that day.  Things were falling into place at long last.       They strolled,  aimless  strolling to the eyes of fellow pedestrians, down the busy city  block , pausing now and again to peer in shop windows. In reality, they were far from  aimless .  They spoke in hushed tones of  tomorrow ’s  challenge .       Any  sticky details  had to be cleaned up, edges honed as sharp as the barber’s  scissors  one secreted in her handbag. The  hourglass  was running down.       Tonight was the night.      By morning, one would be gone, moved out overnight, leaving no forwarding address.  T...

Spring Dreams

Image
MindLoveMisery's Menagerie   Wordle #302 Prompt words in red. Winter is here. The solstice past, now snowflake s heap high in the garden.   The flames on the grate waver tremulous ly. Unnoticed in autumn, a crack in the mortar lets a channel of air breeze in.   I recline on my pillow, pull the afghan closer. Glancing to the window, nothing to see. A black pane, darkness absolute .   I’m content with the seed catalog in my lap, painted daisy dreams contrary to the calendar. I bid “ Goodbye ” to winter, welcome spring. ©2022 Lisa Smith Nelson. My Dog, Mickey

Image
Mindlovemisery's Menagerie Wordle #299  Prompt words in red.       I feel the pressure of his body against my back.  It’s actually rather nice, the warmth pressing right where my back likes the support.  He seems to believe the queen mattress is one big dog bed, and by morning he’ll be in the center, with me on the edge, bound for the floor!      His previous family adopt ed him from the shelter as a tiny pup, only to abandon him back a few short months later when his sibling’s DNA showed something they didn’t appreciate .   They didn’t even give him a chance to finish his puppy classes.  I’m his family now.  He’s my family .  You don’t give up on family .      He’s the brave (or timid, depending on his mood) defender of our home.  A staunch protector of the garden from cats hiding in the rosemary , the fragrant needles not fooling him. He smells cat!  Not that he’d...
