A Lost Pair - erasure poem
Writers' Pantry #49 An erasure poem from Truman Capote's A Christmas Memory . If you have not read Capote's novella, my erasure will not spoil it for you. Just don't try to read under the blacked out parts below though, this is the ending passage and gives things away! I do encourage you to read A Christmas Memory . Just the ending passage brings me to tears every time I read it. (And if you think you know Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's by virtue of seeing the movie, you don't know Breakfast at Tiffany's , for the novella is quite different. Better.) Life separates us. School, prisons, camps. She remains, alone. Alone, she continues single-handed. In every letter she confirms a severing from me. Broken hearts. A lost pair. ©2020 Lisa Smith Nelson.
