N - Nonet

The Nonet is quite a simple poetry form, 9 lines with line 1 having 9 syllables, line 8 having 8 syllables, line 7 with 7 syllables, and so forth down to line 1 with a one syllable word.  Of course, if you make an error, even though you've written nonets before, and write one starting with one syllable, ending with nine, you will call it a "reverse nonet."  Yes, I'm talking about me...  but, thankfully reverse nonets exist, they aren't something I made up to cover my boo-boo.

The First Daffodil

Spring!

You’re here

at long last.

Impatient waits

all cold dark winter

are ended with this bloom.

This daffodil of yellow

emerges from beneath the ground,

elating this gardener’s spirits.

  2. You say a simple form, but that's a tricky poem to write and you did it well. The daffodils are out here, but it's still a bit too cold to feel like Spring!

    1. We will be in the 80s next week! The only daffodils I am still waiting on are the Original Poet's, a very late blooming variety.

  3. I think it works great in a reverse form too! And somehow fits the spring theme better...

    1. Thanks! I guess it does work well starting out with Spring.
