S - Seven Sins

S is for Seven Sins, but I am not posting seven poems today, just Pride.  The theme of seven is repeated in each "sin" poem, as they contain seven lines of seven words each.  Well, that was the plan.  I somehow got switched to seven syllables per line for five of the poems, then back to seven words for the last.  Still, seven lines and each line with seven something!  The rest of these deadly sins will be shared in upcoming posts after the A to Z is over.

Pride

Hold your head up and be proud

but not too high, mind the adage

the pride that oft precedes the fall

Best keep your bragging mouth shut tight

lest taste the bitter feathers of crow

better still to rid those prideful thoughts

and still keep your head held high

  2. I have sometimes had proud thoughts literally precede a fall! It's a good reminder to the self to avoid this particular sin.
