U - Umbrellas and Undercover

UMBRELLAS
a nonet

The umbrellas unfurl at first drop
sidewalks too crowded for them all
Jostling neighbor to neighbor
On slipp’ry street corners
Vie for their own space
Tangled pinwheels
Jangled nerves
Harsh words
Rain

UNDERCOVER
 a mirror or palindrome poem

Undercover
Hidden things
Molder and stink
Rotten apples
Maggoty carcasses
Forgotten letters
Lost love
Things of death
Buried
Death of things
Love lost
Letters forgotten
Carcasses maggoty
Apples rotten
Stink and molder
Things hidden
Undercover

  1. Lisa,

If it's raining so hard you need an umbrella then maybe you should go out at all. :) I don't like rainy days - the messy wetness and cloudy gray days can be a real downer. Undercover is very interesting. I like how the simple poem mirrored itself in the latter paragraph.

    1. My problem with rainy days is muddy dog feet and smelly wet dogs! Try a mirror poem of your own! They are fun, yet quite hard. I've read some that are more sentence, and I just couldn't get that right!

  2. Love the umbrella poem :) Clever. And people do get irritated when it rains.

    1. Yes, rain can bring out the worse in people, especially in crowded situation. Although, heat makes us cranky too! Maybe that's just me!
      Thank you.

  3. Wow Lisa - I don't think I've seen a mirror/palindrome poem before - how cool! And I love your umbrella verse - both for the words and the fact that it looks like the wind turned the umbrella inside out. :-)

    1. Thank you. My mirror poem is simple, I've seen some with sentences. I tried, but couldn't manage that! Maybe with a lot of time.
