24 Seasons: Usui (Snow Becomes Rain) No. 22

24 Seasons Syllabic Poetry Challenge, No. 22  Snow Becomes Rain (February 19 – March 4) Usui 雨水 "Your syllabic poetry writing invitation is to choose a kigo word or phrase from the seasonal kigo list on the post. You can select from the Winter and Early Spring categories ( Yuki Teikei Haiku Society ) on the kigo word list links below. Share your kigo word on your post." I have written a kouta with the kigo phrase, " the month of expectation, "  using plural " months ."    I have edited the original to change "the" in the last line to "nor," as it wasn't clear that "he" did not live to see the spring blooms.  image public domain These months of expectation promise nothing to me now. He'll not see another spring, nor cherries in bloom. ©2024 Lisa Smith Nelson. All Rights Reserved  #tankatuesday #kigo #tankatuesdaypoetrychallenge #tankatuesday24seasons #kouta #syllabicpoetry

Cloud Giants

Image
Tanka Tuesday Weekly Poetry Challenge No. 314 This week's challenge is to " write a shadorma, or series of shadorma, using three to five of the random words provided. "  Words: Scale, fish, month, soup, smile, sticks, slave, property, songs, brushes, rock, disease, shade, cloud, giants, polish, wing, approval, spring, grape, books, comparison, walk, front, hot I have written four, which sort of tell a story of a sunny spring day interrupted by rain.  I will insist that "giants" is two syllables, even as the "official" syllable counter shows it one. I I sip soup in the company of bird songs. Spring arrived! I smile in my approval of this warm spring day. II Cloud Giants roll across blue skies. Welcome rain gently falls. Birds trill songs of approval, thanks for spring showers. III The sun fades. Grey Cloud Giants pass overhead. Rain begins. I run for cover, my books dry under my shirt. IV Cloud Giants clash high above me....

Spring Dreams

MindLoveMisery's Menagerie   Wordle #302 Prompt words in red. Winter is here. The solstice past, now snowflake s heap high in the garden.   The flames on the grate waver tremulous ly. Unnoticed in autumn, a crack in the mortar lets a channel of air breeze in.   I recline on my pillow, pull the afghan closer. Glancing to the window, nothing to see. A black pane, darkness absolute .   I’m content with the seed catalog in my lap, painted daisy dreams contrary to the calendar. I bid “ Goodbye ” to winter, welcome spring. ©2022 Lisa Smith Nelson. Autumn Nights

Image
Mindlovemisery's Menagerie Wordle #290  A seasonal quote from Albert Camus is the inspiration for this week's Wordle.  We are encouraged to either make use of the words or wherever the quote takes us. Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.  Albert Camus Word prompts in red, used in the prose portion of my tanka prose. Spring is the season for flowers , but I prefer the fall , when every leaf begins a show of colors long hidden until chilly autumn nights force them to reveal themselves.   It may be too early for the maple running, but the crisp apples more than make up for it with numerous pies, crumbles, sauces, and cider baking and bubbling on the stove.  No second choices, fall's the best!   soon the leaves will fall and swirling smoke from chimneys rise to meet the moon full and bright to light the way as the children trick or treat ©2022 Lisa Smith Nelson. J - Joseph's Star

Image
Last year I wrote several Joseph's Star poems for J Day in the A to Z Challenge.  At the time I didn't realize the poetry site where I read the form instructions had a typo.  So, last year my poems were in syllables of 1/3/5/7/7/5/1, which is incorrect.  They should have been 1/3/5/7/7/5/3/1, which makes more sense, but I thought perhaps that form had already been given a different name. The correct form does make more of a star shape! Here's the information on the Joseph's Star. It was created in 2007 by Christina R. Jussaume in memory of her father, Joseph.    8 lines 1/3/5/7/7/5/3/1 Unrhymed Any subject, and no limit to the number of stanzas, but each should be a complete statement.
