With Fear and Trembling
Friday Writings #36: Sunset
"...think about what thoughts and feelings a beautiful sunset inspires in you and share that inspiration in your pieces."
There are quite a few stunning sunsets here, but none so amazing as this one in September, 2019. Beautiful, yet frightening. This photo has not been edited, it's a true representation of the sky facing west that night at 7:40.

Fire in the sky
as the sun, in her exit
foretells tomorrow
Pink sky at night
Sailor’s delight
At what point in time
will that delight
reform in awe
to fearsome sights
and dread?
Skies roil and roll,
the vault shudders,
the firmament upheaves,
the heavens erupt in flame.
Obeisance on deck,
prayers with fear and trembling,
in horror and reverence.
yet, skies transform to blood.

Oh yes, we had some scary skies here too, that disastrous summer! You've captured the horror.
ReplyDeleteI think I would like to see a sky like that. Except, unless it might be one of the forest or grass fires raging from here to the West Coast. I've seen other dreaded items; worst was a seven-mile tornado that came close to our school. We were down in the storm cellar, one of the parents came and helped us to watch one at a time at the top of the cellar door. Anything in its path was leveled.

The sky becomes alive Love your wild sky Well written
ReplyDeleteYour title captures the feeling that is left in my gut .. - with fear and trembling .... and with reverence for the beauty you've captured, expressed and shared. Bravo.
ReplyDeleteAmazing photo. See a sky like this and you know you're in big trouble. Good poem
ReplyDeleteSometimes here we get an amber glow, leading up to a really smoldering sunset. It can foretell "delight" in a sunny day, or a big storm. I've never seen the sky quite as smoldering as the picture looks on this browser. It may someday be useful that those who live in fire zones are saying it indicates a fire out of control. Thank you for this bit of education.
