Chance
Photo Prompt
Ronald Ong |
Fox,
he leaps
toward the mouse.
August or December
are just the same to him.
Success or hunger.
A mouse life
or a fox’s,
Mother Nature rolls her die
and picks that day’s winner.

Ha, cool to think of Mother Nature picking that day's winner.
ReplyDeleteIt's the only fair way! I don't think she cheats.
DeleteI like your life or death roll of the die take on this prompt.
ReplyDeleteThank you. :)
DeleteSuccess or hunger indeed. A wonderful and thought provoking poem for the image.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It does make one think when we cheer prey escaping. That fox may have kits to feed, then we'd want the mouse to be caught.
DeleteFascinating, unique take on the surreal image ~~
ReplyDeleteWell, thank you! That's the only way I could see it, although afterwards I see I was in the minority with my view.
Deleteroll those laughin' bones.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard it put that way. Creepy to think of them of bone.
DeleteAnd sometimes comes up snake eyes...
ReplyDeleteOh, but I only had her rolling ONE die! I actually had two and changed it for some reason. But, snake eyes could turn up for the mouse, if it runs into the wrong hole.
DeleteI enjoyed your succinct reality lesson. I wish our food chains weren't so mandated.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking how the fox can be friend or foe to a farmer. We always hear how they get into the hen houses, but they do eat a lot of vermin that gets into the hen houses too, as well as grain.
DeleteYou takes your chances n
ReplyDeletePays the consequences
A nice fresh approach, Lisa.

Nothing else we can do but take the chances!
DeleteLove how you've interpreted the picture so beautifully. Also love Mother Nature's image in your poem.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteSo true...At times you're a hunter...at other times the prey
ReplyDeleteI expect it all balances out, or close to it.
