The Ways of Crabs

Image
For DVerse's Quadrille #203 "...for this prompt, you must write a poem of exactly 44 words AND make certain it includes the word crab, or some form of the word—crabby, crabapple, crabbing, etc."  I'll be the first to admit, this isn't much of a poem!  However, it's a true one. And that alone is reason enough for me to jump at the chance to join in anything with the prompt "crab"!  image:   I found a poem, unfamiliar, in my documents just yesterday. “ The Ways of Crabs ” Unfinished and not mine, that I remember. Yet, no one else is here. Do I sleep write poetry? Bad poetry of crabs, their scuttling ways, and then… compare to man's? ©2024 Lisa Smith Nelson. All Rights Reserved

The Wasteland - haiku

Image
Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge is a new one for me.   In school I was taught “traditional haiku,” where a season was just suggested using "season words," but not specifically mentioned by name.   So, I am breaking those “rules” here, and yes, it bothers me a bit, even 45 years later.   Wow… 45 years.   Mrs. Buckette would be proud her lessons stuck! https://ronovanwrites.com/2020/10/19/ronovan-writes-weekly-haiku-poetry-prompt-challenge-328-dust-weed/   Here's my take for #328, using the words "dust" and "weed."   No rain in four months The Drought lasts all Summer long Just Weed, Dust, and Death   ©2020 Lisa Smith Nelson. A special Weekly Scribblings ( Poets and Storytellers United ) today for #42, About Those Bones...   A prompt based on Magical Mystical Teacher's ( Magical Mystical Teacher ) haiku.  Choices three.  One, where might the bones have come from? Two, why is the subject of the haiku clutching a rosary? And/or third, write something inspired by the poem.  As Meatloaf says, Two Out of Three Ain't Bad . Magical Mystical Teacher's haiku: fingers framed by light clutching an old rosary carved of human bone   ROSE As her gnarled fingertips slide along the strand of beads, she mumbles the Glorious Mysteries. Just audible to her family gathered at her bedside, they do not ask why she does so. It is the way she has always done, and will continue to do until her last near breath. They will then untangle the chaplet from her fingers, releasing it into the wastebasket next to the bed.   ©2020 Lisa Smith Nelson. All Rights Reserve d Left: Stanhope, or Peephole ...

Poems Are Not at All Like Cars

A peek into my poetic past with one of my early attempts.    Based on the cursive, I'd say it must have been around 5th grade.  I cringe at my grammar, but I can chalk it up to, if not my age, poetic license.   ©2020 Lisa Smith Nelson. All Rights Reserved Funny thing about this sheet of binder paper.  I was looking through some photographs, and found this folded in my youngest son's album.  I don't remember it at all, don't know where it's been over the decades, and can't image how it got where it was.
