I’m dreaming.

Of course, I don’t know I’m dreaming.

I dream of winter.

Of snowy days,

Sledding on the hills of my childhood.

Of snowy nights,

Spent under throws before the burning logs.

I dream of winter.

Of chapped red cheeks

And frozen noses.

Of bedtime cocoa

And footed pajamas.

I dream of winter.

Of icicles hanging off eaves

That crack and shatter.

Of snow shovels and snow angels.

I dream of winter.

I awaken to find my feet

hanging out of bed,

my toes frozen

in the cold dim morning light.

  1. I didn't grow up with snow at all. Christmas Eve as a child was always spent driving to San Francisco to see the lights in the Marina district.
