Yesterday at the Cheston Art Exhibit,

a stunning canvas caught my eye.

Such an adroit use of color and light.

A man, gruff in appearance,

hat low upon his brow.

His nose, red, perhaps

a vestige of a previous night’s excess.

One hand reached to tug

his parka closed,

the other cupped

a tiny sparrow,

shivering in his palm.
