“… But This Time YOU Put the Trousers on the Chimp”

It was the first day of our weeklong trip to the cabin, and we were about an hour into the woods, following an overgrown trail. As we broke through some shrubbery, we noticed the end of a railway track hanging in mid-air.
We turned to each other, big grins breaking out on our faces. “Pinky, are you pondering what I’m pondering?” my boyfriend asked, raising his eyebrows.
“I think so, Brain…” I began, bursting into laughter.
We hurried back to the cabin to grab our camping gear. We would spend the rest of vacation following that track to its origin.

I like their attitude - let's see where it will take them!
ReplyDeleteI wondered where the track started, and where it used to go. Probably a small train that used to go around an abandoned park, but I like to imagine more. Like it leads to an old gold mine.

ReplyDeleteMy son says it's an old roller coaster track, but even that could lead them to an abandoned amusement park, which would be creepy.

I wondered when someone was going to ask about that! When the girlfriend says, "I think so, Brain..." she never finished. In the old (there is a remake, not sure if they do the same thing) Animaniacs cartoon (90s) one of the ongoing skits was Pinky and the Brain. They were lab mice, the Brain wanted to take over the world, and in nearly every episode the Brain would ask Pinky, "Are you pondering what I'm pondering," and Pinky would answer with some ridiculous thing that was obviously NOT what the Brain was pondering! My title was one of Pinky's answers. I almost used "I think so, Brain, but culottes have a tendency to ride up so." There are lists of them all online.
DeleteIn this case the two WERE pondering the same thing, following the tracks. Brain and Pinky might be their pet names for each other!
I'd forgotten all about Pinky and the Brain! Took me a second or two to bring it up from my own brain's archives :). Great use of those characters.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched the "new" Animaniacs, but the intro looks pretty much the same, so I hope they stayed true to the original skits and characters.
