Cold Memories - Two for dVerse

dVerse Poetics:  Have You Ever Seen the Rain? Prompt from Li(sa) : Your challenge for today, if you choose to accept it, is to choose... your way with the weather. Use it as a framework. Or a metaphor. Or as a vehicle to get you where your muse wants to go. Any form or length is fine. I would love to see someone take a favorite weather song and pay tribute to its lyrics or melody. Please put attribution on your page if you choose that path. I’m very much looking forward to reading your poems. Going with the suggestion of taking a weather song, I have taken two.  One is mostly fiction, one is mostly fact. A Golden Shovel using a line from  November Rain by Guns N' Roses. And it's hard to hold a candle in the cold November rain A Golden Shovel is an invented form, created by Terrance Hayes.  It is written by taking a line or lines from an existing poem and using each word as end words in your poem. The words are kept in order.  Credit is always given....

Cloud Giants

Tanka Tuesday Weekly Poetry Challenge No. 314 This week's challenge is to " write a shadorma, or series of shadorma, using three to five of the random words provided. "  Words: Scale, fish, month, soup, smile, sticks, slave, property, songs, brushes, rock, disease, shade, cloud, giants, polish, wing, approval, spring, grape, books, comparison, walk, front, hot I have written four, which sort of tell a story of a sunny spring day interrupted by rain.  I will insist that "giants" is two syllables, even as the "official" syllable counter shows it one. I I sip soup in the company of bird songs. Spring arrived! I smile in my approval of this warm spring day. II Cloud Giants roll across blue skies. Welcome rain gently falls. Birds trill songs of approval, thanks for spring showers. III The sun fades. Grey Cloud Giants pass overhead. Rain begins. I run for cover, my books dry under my shirt. IV Cloud Giants clash high above me....

Such a Strange June

Tanka Tuesday No. 278  #specificform  tanka prose - idyll  I'm working in the garden, weeding, pruning, the ordinary tasks for summer’s approach.   Heat on my head, as I’ve forgotten the hat I’d promised to wear.   It’s sitting on the dowry chest in my bedroom where I can’t miss it, yet so often do.   Skies suddenly darken. Sprinkles begin to dot the deck with splotches, reminding me of the markings on a dog I once had.   Soon the clouds fully open and release a deluge.   I race for the house, calling my now-dog to follow.   Yarrow flattens. Poppies bow their heads. Gutters overflow.   Tomorrow, with the sun dazzling through the cleansed air, the garden will glister.     late spring flowers bloom heedless to the warming days   a sudden shower cool sips for the thirsty soul serenity in nature     ©2022 Lisa Smith Nelson.
