A to Z Challenge Reflections 2021

Well, another Blogging from A to Z April Challenge has come and gone.  That means it's time for the Reflection post.  What did I like?  Learn? Thoughts?

First, I enjoyed participating, here, at The Versesmith (Poetry Forms A to Z), as well as on my other blog, Lisa's Garden Adventure (Flowers A to Z).  Without hesitation, I'll do it again next year!

FAVORITES:

I visited some favorites from previous A to Z Challenges.  I don't follow them, or often visit during the "off season," since many blog about things not up my alley when it's not A to Z time. I did discover a few that I will follow or check more often.  My daily blog visits (only the ones who kept it up) included, in addition to http://www.a-to-zchallenge.com of course, in order of how they were saved in my bookmarks:

WHY THOSE?:

Some were interesting last year, so I came back and found them interesting again this year.  Others sounded like I might enjoy them when I browsed through a lot of theme reveal posts after checking the blog categories of interest.  I also found a few searching for scavenger hunt items.

What interests me in a blog?  Things I like!  Photos.  Animals. One blog shared places in Rhode Island.  Now, if it had been Nebraska or Utah, I wouldn't have regularly read it, but my son and his wife live in RI, so I had a connection.

NEGATIVES?:

Sure, aren't there always?  I am disappointed each year to find less than one handful of blogs on nature/outdoors.   And, I'm always sorry when an interesting blog stops A to Z-ing midway.   I know, things come up, but I can still be disappointed  when really fun ones stop at O or P!

VISITING OTHER BLOGS:

I visited a large portion of all the blogs listed, but didn't get to all 307.  I skipped the ones marked "adult," because I just wasn't sure how "adult" they meant!  There are still author blogs to get to.  Last year there were 510 participants, this year a big drop to 307.  Still, a lot of blogs to visit, read, and leave meaningful comments.

ETA: I read on a reflections post something I forgot to mention.  There were several (too many) blogs that made it very hard to find the daily A to Z post.  I'll be honest, if I couldn't see it near the top, scrolling just a bit, I didn't bother looking for it.  Maybe the blogger changed his or her mind, and there wasn't one to find.  Or, they blog other things the same day and it gets buried.  Just a suggestion to bloggers, make it easy to find the daily letter post!

COMMENTS:

I always left comments.  I left many comments. Bloggers may not know that though, because I kept getting emails notifying me that my posts were blocked due to AOL emails not being accepted.  Sure, AOL isn't the most popular anymore, but some of us still use it!   I know in some cases my comments were NOT blocked, as I could see they had been posted.  But, I do wonder just how many comments were blocked?  I would spend a long time every morning reading posts and commenting, then my email would look below.  I almost quit trying to make any comments at all.

I got more comments than in previous years.  I appreciate each and everyone of them!  I blog for fun, but for the A to Z it's nice to know someone is reading my posts.  After all, anyone who has participated knows we put a lot into April, more than most regular posts.

SCAVENGER HUNT:

Did I do the Scavenger Hunt Challenge?  YES!  I was obsessed with it!  I found more than one for most of them, but W.  Whale.  I couldn't find a single Whale.  I did find someone blogging about Wales, can I count that?   Please?

Comments

  1. It's true, there are less participants this year than the previous year, sad but I still don't think it's all that bad. Frankly, usually the higher the number of participants, the more likely you get people just signing into the master list and not actually doing the challenge.

I know what you mean by the adult content. I don't know the extend of what they meant but I wouldn't want to find out either. I'm a too much of a prude to go there.

That is strange about the comments. I didn't get that error but I have not commented all everyone on the master list. But I think the error has to do with the blogger's account and not the person who did the commenting.

    Congrats on finishing the challenge.

    Have a lovely day.

    1. It's never too early to think about a theme! I always love what you do. Of course, that goes for May through March as well as April.
